By initiating participatory communication projects, Communication for Change strengthens voices of community members to influence social and economic issues important in their lives.
We define participatory communication as a process which enables people to speak for themselves. Though the modes of communication vary, in participatory communication the people who control the tools are community members -- not outsiders who mediate information and representation. Participatory communication is an exchange among individuals that values each person's perspective and voice. Such communicators can mobilize constituencies and give a stronger collective voice for change at many levels of society.
