The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1951 to reduce the sum total of pain and fear inflicted on animals by humans. Areas of focus include farm animal welfare, whaling, horse slaughter, humane education, lab animal welfare and shark finning. AWI works to better the lives of animals through legislative and legal actions, advocacy campaigns, and public education.
