About us

The Association on American Indian Affairs (AAIA) is the oldest Indian advocacy organization in the country. Started in New York in 1922, AAIA seeks to assist Native children, families and communities through our policy and grass roots work in the areas of youth/education, language and cultural preservation, and sovereignty. Initiatives include language preservation, sacred lands protection, repatriation, scholarships, youth summer camps, indian child welfare, federal acknowledgment, the use of sacred birds for ceremony, health, diabetes education and wellness, and juvenile justice. We are governed by an all-Native Board of Directors from across the country and take our lead from leaders in the Native community.
