ABOUT AMERICA'S PROMISE AND THE GRAD NATION CAMPAIGN
America's Promise Alliance is the largest national partnership dedicated to creating the conditions so that every young person has the opportunity to succeed in school and life. Since our founding at the Presidents' Summit for America's Future in 1997, we have been built on Five Promises (Caring Adults, Safe Places, A Healthy Start, An Effective Education, and Opportunities to Serve) as the essential building blocks for each young person's success. And we believe every individual, every institution, and every sector has a role to play in delivering the Five Promises and helping make it possible for all young people to have a fair chance at achieving the American Dream.
The core work of America's Promise is communications, connections and knowledge sharing. Known for our strength in communications, America's Promise Alliance seeks to raise public awareness and to build public will for greater support for young people. In addition, America's Promise Alliance is widely-respected for bringing together hundreds of Alliance partners with wide-ranging perspectives and philosophies, dozens of communities and leaders from various organizations and sectors around a shared vision and action agenda. Using our communications skills and our wide ranging partners, we share knowledge of what works in meeting the challenges many young people face today.
Our current work is focused on the Grad Nation Campaign, a ten-year effort showing notable progress to dramatically increase high school graduation rates. The goal is to increase the high school graduation rate to 90% by 2020. The need for this campaign is underscored by the fact that in today's world a high school diploma is a necessary starting point for success. The Grad Nation campaign also involves efforts to increase post-secondary attainment and completion. The Campaign is already showing very positive results, and we need to expand and accelerate those gains in the coming years.
