Since its grassroots formation in 1982 the federation is the state's only 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that focuses exclusively on protecting and restoring the coast of North Carolina through education, advocacy and habitat preservation and restoration.
A diverse board of directors, including fishermen, teachers, lawyers, developers, small business owners, philanthropists and others, governs the federation. It is a statewide board of directors and it meets quarterly.
Eighteen professionals, including scientists, a lobbyist, educators, planners and others make up the staff. We have more than 1,200 student and adult volunteers and have partnered with more than 150 other organizations.
