About Us

Bridge Street Development Corporation (BSDC), a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to provide civic and economic opportunities to low-to-moderate income residents of Central Brooklyn by building partnerships with businesses, government, and other community stakeholders. Our history is deeply rooted in the African-American struggle for social justice and racial equity, founded in 1995 by senior officers of one of New York City’s oldest African-American congregations, the Bridge Street AME Church, nationally known for its social justice work, having been a stop on the Underground Railroad and having such notables as Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas speak from its pulpit.

Our vision is to preserve Bedford-Stuyvesant and adjacent Brooklyn neighborhoods as desirable communities for raising families, owning businesses and taking part in rich cultural, spiritual and recreational opportunities. Our programs are designed to advance financial empowerment, social justice and racial equity: Youth Workforce Development; Senior Services; Community Engagement; Affordable Housing; Economic Development; Financial Empowerment. Our holistic approach to effective and sustainable community development serves as the basis the future growth of our organization and the expansion of our Programs.
