About Us

DKT International was founded in 1989 to promote family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention through social marketing. DKT International was named after D.K. Tyagi, an Assistant Commissioner of Family Planning in India’s Family Planning Program in the 1960s who was responsible for a pioneering public information campaign that helped hundreds of millions of Indians learn about family planning.

Today, DKT International designs and implements 21 social marketing programs in 19 countries, employing 1,200 employees around the world. DKT has programs in Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Nigeria, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and the Philippines.

DKT sales totals included 600 million condoms, over 76 million cycles of oral contraceptives, over 16 million injectable contraceptives, over 1.5 million IUDs, and emergency contraception, implants, misoprostol/mifepristone, and manual vacuum aspiration kits.

In 2012, DKT’s programs provided approximately 25 million Couple Years of Protection (CYPs), making DKT the largest private provider of contraceptives and family planning services in the developing world.

DKT International received Charity Navigator’s coveted four-star rating for “sound fiscal management” six years in a row. Only four percent of America’s nonprofit organizations have received at least six consecutive four-star evaluations.
