SMART, a partner project of the Fund for the City of New York

About Us

SMART (Sisterhood Mobilized for AIDS/HIV Research & Treatment), a partner project of the Fund for the City of New York, has provided free, comprehensive HIV treatment education, including nutrition and cooking classes, within a safe supportive peer community, to women and youth living with or affected by HIV/AIDS since 1998. SMART's peer-driven, holistic model has successfully improved health outcomes for participants: they are given the latest gender-specific treatment information; move from isolation to inclusion; and are given new skill sets to put into practice, so they can live longer, healthier lives. SMART values self-determination; SMART women are offered leadership opportunities that help them gain the confidence to become advocates for quality healthcare for themselves, their families, and their communities.
