About Us

The Heifer-Ecuador Foundation is a non-governmental rural development organization, associated with Heifer International, which has operated in Ecuador for nearly sixty years. Heifer-Ecuador promotes the principles of food sovereignty and agroecology in Ecuadorian productive chains, working with and supporting smallholder farmer, artisan fishing, and indigenous organizations and collaborating with international NGOs and national and local government entities.

Our full-time staff of agronomers, economists, and sociologists execute regional, national, and bi-national projects that aim to secure the food sovereignty of smallholder farmers and artisan fishermen and their families by facilitating their access to training, productive inputs, and markets; to recover and preserve vulnerable ecosystems, such as dry forests and mangrove forests, on which smallholder farmers depend; and to support the grassroots organizing.
