About us

The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival was created in 1980 to promote awareness, appreciation and pride in the diversity of the Jewish people. Through our year-round public programs and services to the field, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival strives to strengthen community consciousness of Jewish identity, history and culture; provide a dynamic forum for Jews and others to engage in dialogue on identity that supports the dignity of all people in the multi-cultural context within which we live; and create an international showcase and stimulus for independent filmmakers whose work explores Jewish themes.

In 25 years we have produced 40 festivals and presented over 500 films to audiences in 18 American cities, as well as in Moscow and Madrid. In the San Francisco Bay Area, our home base, more than 34,000 people attend our Festival each summer. SFJFF also runs a teen filmmaker program called the New Jewish Filmmaking Project. The original and the largest Jewish Film Festival, we have also published a GUIDE TO INDEPENDENT JEWISH FILM.
