The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, founded in 1787, is an educational and cultural institution dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of medicine and the roles of the physician in contemporary society. Its members are physicians, health care providers, historians, scientists, and educators, including some of the most prominent figures in health and medicine. The College accomplishes this mission through its Historical Medical Library, Mütter Museum, Francis Clark Wood Institute for the History of Medicine (Wood Institute), its consumer health information website Philly Health Info. and its lectures, programs, conferences, and publications. The College concentrates on the examination of medicine and healthcare in broad social contexts through its thematic focus on medical history, medical ethics, public health/preventive medicine and arts medicine.
