Refugee Youth Services (RYS, a program of Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services) assists newly arrived refugee youth to build a solid foundation for the future through increasing academic success, enhancing career readiness, reducing risk factors for drop out, and improving overall acculturation.
RYS provides US School System Orientation for youth of all ages and their parents; and tutoring, mentoring, school liaison, career exploration, and cultural education services to middle and high school aged refugee youth in Pinellas and Hillsborough County. Volunteers can assist RYS as group and in-home tutors and mentors.
At RYS we envision a world in which every person enjoys human rights and every community torn apart by crisis is given the opportunity for healing and hope.
RYS is sponsored by the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services Program, with grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement.
