About us

Founded in 1844, the Correctional Association is the only private organization in New York State that has legislative authority to visit prisons and report its findings to policymakers. The Correctional Association operates primarily as a research, public education and policy advocacy organization dealing with such issues as the State's sentencing and release policies, the effects of criminal justice policies on women and their families, juvenile justice, prison and jail conditions, and effective crime prevention strategies. The Correctional Association seeks to create a more fair, efficient and humane criminal justice system and a more safe and just society.
