Bridges to Understanding

Bridges to Understanding empowers and unites youth worldwide, enhances cross-cultural understanding, and builds global citizenship through the use of digital technology and the art of storytelling.

Celebrated documentary photographer and Mercer Island resident, Phil Borges (www.philborges.com), founded Bridges to Understanding in 2001 to empower youth around the world to share their vision, hopes and dreams, and to forge bonds across cultures through the unique medium of digital storytelling and photography.

Since then, thousands of youth around the world have connected with each other through Bridges’ teacher-guided online discussion forums, curriculum-based classroom programs and the creation and sharing of digital stories. Students from very different backgrounds and cultures have the opportunity to learn directly from each other about their lives, communities and the global issues that confront youth around the world.
