About us

The Center, based at The Miriam Hospital in Providence and with strong ties to Brown University, initiates and supports projects designed to improve the health and human rights of prisoners and other justice-involved populations through education, advocacy and research. The Center strives to translate world-class research into sustainable and effective laws, policies, and practices. Current Center projects include, e.g., developing national best practices for the treatment and management of LGBTQI youth in corrections; designing a program to improve the health literacy of justice involved individuals and other low income, medically disenfranchised populations; and developing a national research strategy to measure the impact of Medicaid expansion on former prisoners.
