Kidango, a charitable organization, began as Tri-Cities Children's Centers in 1979. At inception there were only 90 children and families being served at one center in Fremont. Today more than 2,500 children and their families benefit from the Kidango programs in Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Francisco Counties. Kidango has over 400 staff and over $25 million budget.
Kidango's mission is to inspire all children and their families by promoting their potential through quality education and nurturing relationships.
As a leader in early care and education, this public benefit organization has a long history of working closely with the California Department of Education Child Development Division, State Preschool and Head Start programs to provide quality services for children ages 0-12.
Programs now include infant, preschool and school age child care and child development, early intervention services, a mental health component for children and families. By providing a developmentally appropriate environment and curriculum, children will learn and be prepared for school. Longitudinal studies have shown that for every $1.00 invested in a quality early childhood program such as Kidango, society benefits $7.00 in decreased costs for criminal justice, welfare, special education and other services. Families are supported and child abuse decreases. Dependence upon welfare is decreased.
A diversity of clients attend Kidango, including children with disabilities, children who are homeless, children whose parents are working or in training, who are of all income levels, children of abuse, neglect or domestic violence and infants of teen parents.
Children eat breakfast, lunch and two snacks each day, depending upon their attendance. This represents at least 75% of their daily nutritional needs. There is no additional charge for nutrition services.
