About Us

The current area of operation is western Kenya. This region is characterized by high levels of poverty, lack of food security, poor infrastructure and rampant environmental degradation and biodiversity loss in this fragile ecosystem. AFEDAR was created to promote sustainable development through networking, information dissemination, and collaboration and conduct research and support the implementation of projects that would help in the integration of environmental conservation and development projects through:

Undertake research on issues both current and emerging on sustainable environment and development. Develop and network with human resources in the relevant fields and empower communities especially the disadvantaged in the planning and management of natural resources and sustainable development. Advocacy and lobbying for the integration of environmental conservation and principles into policy formulation and development at grassroots, national and international levels. Develop and maintain information resource facility to support research, training, consultancy and extension services on environment and development. To facilitate a forum for dialogue on the sustainable management of natural resources through collaboration and networking with research institutions, academic institutions and all other stakeholders. To seek, enhance and develop appropriate technologies that would alleviate poverty, food insecurity, human health and development and ensure environmental conservation. Propagate and ensure gender equity in environmental conservation through community participatory planning and management. Dissemination and knowledge exchange through publication of research findings journals and newsletters, training manuals for creation of awareness on better Creating environmental awareness to the communities and initiating environmental clubs in schools and facilitating their activities. Educating the public about health hazards, their causes and necessary prevention.
