The Book Industry Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable organization coordinating programs to strengthen the bookselling community through charitable programs that support employees and their families. Established in 1996, as the Borders Group Foundation the core program provides assistance to booksellers who have a demonstrated financial need arising from severe hardship and/or emergency circumstances. Since its inception, the organization has provided over $5 million in charitable assistance.
In 2011, when Borders Bookstores went out of business, the Foundation expanded its mission to include the book industry at large and changed its name to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BInC). As part of this transition representatives from the Foundation are advocating and promoting our programs and services to a wider audience in the book retail industry. It is our vision to be an organization that is dedicated to "book people helping book people".
