Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (of Maine)

Nonprofit or community organization

Last modified: July 7, 2011, 8:56 PM

Description

ILAP is Maine's only statewide nonprofit legal aid agency dedicated to providing the information, advocacy, and individualized legal help with immigration law and related issues that low-income Maine residents need. With ILAP's expert assistance, our clients improve their immigration status, gain safety from persecution or domestic violence, and unify or stay together with their families.

ILAP's services include direct legal aid provided for free or low-fee, educational outreach for immigrant communities, service providers, and the general public regarding immigration laws and immigration policies, and systemic advocacy to address laws and policies affecting large numbers of Maine's immigrants. Our advocacy work is often undertaken in coalition with our Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition (MIRC) partners.

The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project seeks to advocate for and to improve the status and well-being of Maine's low-income noncitizens and their families by providing affordable legal services, and by educating and working with service providers, policy makers, and the public concerning legal issues unique to noncitizens.
