About us

The Southern Environmental Law Center is a regional, non-profit organization dedicated to securing lasting protection for the South's natural resources and outstanding landscapes. Founded in 1986, SELC has grown into a multi-faceted organization that is leading several broad-based conservation initiatives to strengthen environmental protection. Working in partnership with more than 100 diverse groups, SELC uses direct legal action, policy reform and public education to safeguard the South's rivers and streams, native forests, wetlands, coastal resources, clean air, wildlife habitat and livable communities. SELC's work in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia has earned it national recognition as one of the most effective environmental groups in the country.
