About Us

Emanuel Community Center (ECC) was founded in 1871 to serve the expanding local population of German immigrants who were moving into Cincinnati. The Center helped the new residents learn English, learn to vote and learn other aspects of adjustment to the American way of life. As population in this area changed from German heritage to Appalachian to perdominantly African-American, ECC evolved with the needs of the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) community. One need this neighborhood identified as far back as 1900 was childcare. Today ECC's Early Learning Center is the oldest continuously operating child care center in the state of Ohio. In addition to child care and development, ECC offers cultural arts programming, health & wellness prgramming, meeting space for civic and government organizations and is an ongoing role as a civic leader in OTR. ECC supports a wide range of progams and activities for Over-the-Rhine children and adults to help them achieve their goals and enhance their potential. Emanuel Community Center is a resource for a cohesive community providing educaiton and shared neighborhood experiences.
