About Us

The Boston University Community Service Center is the primary office for volunteerism on campus, directly offering thirteen student-run volunteer programs and advising many other student groups. The Community Service Center (CSC) is home to 13 student-run service programs, projects and events. In 2011, the CSC had a base of over 4,500 volunteers and contributed over 130,000 hours of service to the Greater Boston area and around the US.

While our primary focus is engaging the undergraduate population at BU, some programs are also open to graduate students as well as faculty and staff of the university.

Our two most popular programs are FYSOP, the First-Year Student Outreach Project, and Alternative Spring Breaks. Nearly 25% of the class of 2014 moved onto campus a week early to engage in service projects through FYSOP 21. In March of 2011, 36 groups will travel across the country to do service through Alternative Spring Breaks, now in its 23rd year.
