About Us

At The Cambodian Federation of Rugby we are working hard to develop rugby in the Kingdom. Over the past 12 years, we have seen nearly 3000 players go through our various development programmes. Since May 2012 we have introduced over 500 children to the sport of rugby through The CFR Grass Roots Rugby program. We will endeavour to continue to increase this figure and consolidate those who have been introduced to the sport so as to give them a sense of belonging within our growing rugby family.

We have recently been given approval to begin Rugby in State Schools as part of the National Curriculum. We currently work with eight schools and organisations in Phnom Penh, including Krousar Thmey, a deaf charity school in Phnom Penh. We have begun dialogue with schools in Battambang, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Kep/Kampot with the aim of delivering The CFR Grass Roots Rugby program to the provinces of Cambodia. Many of these children have never had the opportunity to play organised team sports before and experience the associated benefits it entails.

The CFR Grass Roots Rugby program is designed to introduce boys and girls of the various schools and organisations to the sport through fun, game based activities. We promote a healthy lifestyle and social interaction using sport as our medium. Some of the kids might end up being club players who go on to represent Cambodia in the future but more importantly it’s about trying to spread the values of rugby. We know it is a great team and family sport and with our sponsors support we will be able to continue what we believe is such a valuable program for our community.
