Kindle for At Risk Kids is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Fort Lauderdale which procures at cost for child interest agencies pre-loaded e-readers for their youth in the delinquency and dependency court systems. We work to make convenient and cost-efficient their effort to provide their young persons the important benefits of reading. Agencies self-determine how best to administer their e-reader program, with suggestion that youth on probation or in protective care be assigned an e-reader during the period of agency oversight and to thereafter reassign the e-reader to another child in their care and supervision. The Kindle for At Risk Kids library is comprised of 25 e-books which have been selected as edifying and quality works in the public domain. Kindle for At Risk Kids works to help child welfare agencies establish an innovative, effective and affordable at-risk youth reading program. As our youth today increasingly utilize technology in their lives, familiarity with e-readers is an important step for them towards developing an enjoyment of reading and enhancing their literacy skills. We run a tight ship and operate without pay - yet the rewards are great.
