Situated in the nation's capital, the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) is the only national organization with a constituency that provides frontline STD programs and services. NCSD's constituency is the 50 states and 15 US cities and territories that operate public STD prevention and intervention initiatives under the auspices of the US Centers for Disease Control. NCSD refers to its 65 full members as project areas. "
NCSD uses its expertise and experience to inform public policy, collaborate with the US Centers for Disease Control to sustain and increase the quality of STD programs, services and resources across the United States and its territories, and to educate and inform the public about comprehensive sexual health. NCSD proactively seeks to increase resources for core STD programs and services and it responds swiftly to efforts to curtail access to services and sexual health information.
NCSD's current strategic plan calls for achieving 3 important goals over the next 5 years. One is broader public consciousness and attention in public health related policy to STD reduction and prevention. The second is increased resources for public health programs to meet service demands. The third is assuring that public sector STD programs have future leaders.
