About Us

Magnificat Houses was chartered by the State of Texas in 1968 and has been providing the poor and homeless of Houston not only with the basic needs of food and shelter, but with hope and the belief that every human being has dignity.

Magnificat Houses' mission is to give Christian witness to the value of each person - not for what the person can do or produce - but for who the person is - someone who has dignity and deserves respect.

Magnificat Houses runs nine residential houses for the homeless, the recovering mentally ill, ex-offenders, women and children, and anyone who might need a place to stay. In addition we also run a house for those with HIV/AIDS, a ClubHouse for adults recovering from mental illness, a soup kitchen located on Houston's "skid row", an emergency overnight shelter for street women, and a thrift store that offers discounted clothes, furniture, etc.
