About Us

Glovico is a nonprofit company that trains people from developing countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia to become language teachers of their mother tongues via Skype (particularly Spanish, French and English). We then market this service to North-American and European customers. Starting with a global middle class, we want to reach ever poorer potential teachers through a microcredit program in the future. Furthermore we are installing a program for schools in Europe to teach K12-students about the impact of globalization through videoconferences with our teachers. In that way we want to generate new income opportunities in developing countries and foster intercultural communication. By doing so we intend to become a strong bridge over the existing digital divide.

Glovico’s main product are 55 minute private lessons via Skype that are sold globally and retail starting at $ 12 per lesson. The quality of the teachers is assured through us conducting interviews prior to admissions to our online platform www.glovico.org and a web 2.0 rating mechanism where students rate their teachers after a lesson with respect to punctuality, internet connection, competency, friendliness and accent. Connectivity problems of the teachers have not been a big issue for us so far. We are online since May 2010 and are currently heading for international expansion.
