About us

The National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) is dedicated to the well being of Indian children and families. NICWA was established to train Indian child welfare workers, conduct community development, and public policy, and to share information on this subject. NICWA informs people and organizations of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). NICWA stands to protect the ICWA. This web site provides resources for becoming informed about issues effecting Indian children, dealing with Indian custody provisions and adoptions, becoming culturally sensitive, preventing child abuse and neglect, and preventing child sexual abuse in small rural Indian communities.
