Since 1988, PANIM: The Institute for Jewish Leadership and Values has been offering seminars on public policy and Jewish values for high school students in the nation's capital. These seminars help young American Jews see the relevance of their Jewish heritage to the critical social and political issues facing our nation and our world. Not only do the seminars result in heightened pride in Jewish identity and appreciation for the work of the "organized Jewish community," but students also come to understand their special responsibility to effect tikkun olam (repair of the world). During the past sixteen years, over 11,000 students have participated in PANIM programs, representing over 130 communities. For more information about PANIM, visit our website, www.panim.org.
The success and growth of PANIM have led to an expansion in scope. PANIM programs now reach teen, college and adult audiences. They are organized around three primary goals of our young and dynamic organization:
I. Inspiring Jewish Youth
To conduct educational seminars for high school and college youth that enhance their Jewish identity through exposure to Jewish values that foster an appreciation for the responsibility of Jews to apply these values to their community and the wider world;
II. Strengthening Jewish Leadership and Community
to equip both Jewish lay leaders and Jewish professionals with the skills and knowledge to apply and transmit the Judaic legacy of learning, service and tikkun olam (repair of the world) in communal and civic contexts;
IIl. Integrating Jewish Learning, Values and Social Responsibility
To develop programs that integrate Jewish learning, values and social responsibility both within the Jewish world and across faith and ethnic lines.
