About Us

Tanzania Education Corp (TEC) supports high-quality education in Tanzania through partnership with locally-run schools. This support is both financial and programmatic — through initiatives such as school construction, cross-cultural learning opportunities, international volunteer programs, library development, computer science classes, professional development and more. The first school that TEC supported was Tumaini Junior School (TJS), founded by a Tanzanian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Bayo, in their family living room. From these humble beginnings, the school has grown from 17 students in 2004 to over 1,000 students in 2019, and is number one in the district and in the top 0.7% of schools in Tanzania, based on the national exam. In order to address the need for a high-quality secondary school for TJS graduates, TEC and Tumaini Schools founded Tumaini Senior Secondary School (TSSS) in 2016. TSSS is a STEM-focused school with innovative academic programs such as computer programming and project-based learning. In 2017, due to the increasingly high enrollment, we will open a new Tumaini Pre-Primary School for our youngest students so that every child has room to learn.
