About us

The Elise Joseph Foundation, Inc. (EJF) is a charitable, tax exempt, nonprofit organization under the 501C(3) IRS code. EJF serves the Haitian and Haitian-American communities through education, cross-cultural promotion, health promotion, and humanitarian relief. The Elise Joseph Foundation's services includes "The Cultural Relations" radio program that addresses cross-cultural and other issues of concern to the Haitian community; such as, immigration, health and nutrition, parent-child relations, available resources, as well as community news and events. EJF promotes health and wellness through its annual Haitian and Haitian-American health fair in October by facilitating service providers and other service organizations to address health disparities in this underserved, minority community. We also collaborate with organizations in the United States to bring services to Haitians in Haiti, Dominican Republic and Bahamas through our humanitarian relief services. The Elise Joseph Foundation does not discriminate and comply with the American Disabilities.

Our History
The Elise Joseph Foundation Inc. was established by Marie Joseph, a Haitian-American nurse and Gilda Jean-Louis, missionary to Haiti, in May 2005 as a non-profit, public charitable, religious organization. The founders initially felt called during a missionary visit in August 2004. During the visit, Marie provided free consultation for the street merchants in the town where their grandmother and great grandmother were also street merchants. Gilda documented the health conditions of these merchants and distributed humanitarian supplies that were donated by various supporters. Marie, a nurse educator and co-founder of the Haitian Nurses Association of Boston, also launched a health promotion through the Future Haitian Nurse Youth Program which she created. The program served 60 youth and young adults and was sponsored by the Archdiocese and the Department of Social Services of Haiti. Although Marie Joseph lost her battle with cancer and passed away in October 2005, the legacy lives on and will be carried by the Board of Directors of the foundation.
