The Coalition to Save Our Mental Health Centers is a local grassroots non-profit organization advocating for changes to the current system of mental health care in the City of Chicago by uniting local residents, mental health clients, faith communities, and mental health professionals.
Recently, the Coalition was instrumental in the passage of the "Chicago Community Expanded Mental Health Services Act" of 2011. This act gives Chicago voters the authority to place and vote on a binding referendum to restore mental health services in their own community through a small (average of $16 per year) property tax increase.
The Coalition has set its sights on establishing the first such program in the North River community of Chicago by winning a referendum campaign on the November 6, 2012 ballot.
