About Us

Mission Statement

Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent and affordable homes in safe communities where families can live and grow.

Overview

Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, volunteer-driven Christian ecumenical housing ministry dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing to families in need. Our staff works with direction from our Board of Trustees and in concert with our many dedicated volunteers who serve on a number of committees and at our worksites.

Habitat for Humanity serves as a hand up, not a handout, for families in need. Families apply to us to earn a house of their own. Once accepted into the program, our qualifying "partner families" work alongside our many volunteers to build their house. Each adult in the family contributes at least 275 hours of "sweat equity," as well as completing 40 hours of homeowner education classes before earning their home. The family then makes a down payment, and purchases the home with an affordable, interest free mortgage.

The mortgage payments from our partner families are used to build future homes. Other funding sources include revenue from our ReStore, corporate and church sponsorships, individual donations, government and foundation grants, and fundraising events.
