About us

Occupy the SEC (OSEC) is a group of concerned citizens, activists, and financial professionals that works to ensure that financial regulators protect the interests of the public, not Wall Street.

OSEC was first established in October 2011 as a working group within the New York-based Occupy Wall Street movement. Since its founding OSEC has advocated for financial regulation using various forms of protest and advocacy. OSEC's more "traditional" methods of advocacy include writing comment letters to legislators and regulators regarding proposed laws and regulations, engaging with media through interviews and op-eds, filing amicus briefs and lawsuits, and using social media to inform the public on important issues relating to financial regulation. The group has also held multiple street protests in front of organizations like the SEC, Federal Reserve, JP Morgan and Citigroup.
