About Us

EQUITAS is a victim-centered, evidence-based scientific and humanitarian organization that provides independent scientific contributions and psychosocial assistance to families of victims of forced disappearance committed in the context of serious, mass or systematic human rights violations and armed conflicts.

EQUITAS also conducts investigations and develops tools to improve official as well as private forensic practices, to guide public policies and raise awareness on the issue. EQUITAS’ work is based on a humanitarian and human rights perspective, guided by principles of impartiality, humanity and independence.

EQUITAS works with victim associations, non-governmental organizations, and representatives of government agencies in order to understand the magnitude of the crime and the challenges that surround search processes, as well as to contribute with proposals to resolve the issue structurally and support the families affected.
