Muir Ranch

Muir Ranch is a 1.5-acre sustainable urban teaching farm and teen jobs program at John Muir High School in Pasadena, California. At Muir Ranch, students learn how to grow fresh vegetables and flowers, sell them through the produce subscription program (CSA) and cook them in the Muir Ranch Food Lab. Students can receive elective credit, apply for paid afterschool internship positions, or complete required volunteer hours.

Muir Ranch Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is the social enterprise arm of Muir Ranch, which funds the year-round internship program for Muir students. Since its launch in May 2012, the CSA has grown to over 150 members and has two satellite partners, in Inglewood and Whittier. Muir Ranch CSA partners with several local farms for seasonal fruit and vegetables to supplement the school farm's produce. Muir Ranch CSA is a year-round operation.

The mission of Muir Ranch is to teach at-risk youth invaluable business and life skills through hands on learning and also provide local residents with access to fresh and affordable produce. //Muir Ranch is sponsored by the Pasadena Educational Foundation.//
