Student Holocaust Education Movement

About Us

SHEM is a student-based, student-run organization that was started at Yeshiva University in August of 2009. Our movement assumes a new, dynamic approach to Holocaust education by specifically engaging the younger generation. We achieve this via the implementation of innovative, large-scale programming, outreach projects and collaborative efforts with organizations whose missions and goals lay conducive to our own. Committed to raising Holocaust awareness and spearheading grassroots activism, the YU/Stern students of our leadership team hold a variety of executive positions that oversee the orchestration of events and the evolution of the SHEM mission. So far, we have catered to college students in the NY area from schools such as Columbia, NYU, Queens College, Baruch, etc. Our ultimate goal is to get into middle and high schools in order to train students in Holocaust history and pedagogy. To that end, we are committed to creating a movement of students, by students, for students; a movement that will preserve Holocaust memory for generations to come.
