About us

The mission of WHEAT is to educate, advocate, motivate and empower individuals to action in the fight against hunger. WHEAT was founded in 1979 to provide resources for education and advocacy on local and global hunger and poverty issues to individuals, groups, community and religious organizations. The WHEAT Staff and Board Members, along with its volunteers, work tirelessly to increase the understanding of the causes of hunger and to encourage people to become involved in other hunger-related agency projects and activities. WHEAT annually sponsors World Food Day (October 16) and its teleconference, and The Arizona Walks for the Hungry. WHEAT's Clothes Silo provides business attire for women re-entering the work force, free of charge; the Hand to Hand Project seeks economic justice around the globe through the retail sale of fairly traded quality merchandise from multiple resources, empowering the individual artisan and supporting a sustainable way of life - providing economic resources for food, education and housing.
