About Us

For more than 20 years Womanspace has worked for women’s political, social, and economic equality. We inform, educate and advocate for women in Southern Alberta. Our priorities include research, media awareness, education, information, community events, and advocacy. Presently, we focus on financial literacy and self-advocacy for women.

In the early 1980′s a group of local feminist women met to discuss and collectively respond to issues such as violence against women, the feminization of poverty, and pay equity. As a result a chapter of Alberta Status of Women Action Committee was established. In 1992 the name was changed to Womanspace Resource Center. In 1999, Womanspace participated in the establishment of the Campus Women’s Centre at the University of Lethbridge. The Campus Women’s Centre has since become an independent organization. Womanspace has been involved in a number of community projects such as the South West Alberta Coalition on Poverty.

We offer public education events on issues affecting women and provide workshops and forums in response to requests by local groups. In addition to providing information, resources and referrals to women, Womanspace Resource Centre works throughout the year with other local agencies to organize events that broaden community and media awareness on a variety of women’s issues. Womanspace conducts several larger initiatives through the year.
