About Us

The Devereux Foundation traces its roots back to 1912 when a remarkable young Philadelphia educator took an extraordinary interest in youngsters who were considered "slow" by most of her colleagues. Helena T. Devereux, who is considered a pioneer in the field of special education, operated on the premise that each of the students assigned to her could learn and grow in an environment tailored to their needs. Basically, her philosophy was that "every child is a program."

The goal of The Devereux Community Services Wrap Around Program is to support the child in his or her natural environment (home, school, community) with behavioral interventions overseen by a Master’s Level Clinician. The intensive short-term services will work to transfer skills to the primary care giver, and allow the child to function within his or her natural supports. Success will eventually lead to the child and family functioning without any behavioral supports.

Devereux's Community Adult Autism Partnership Program (CAAPP) is designed to help adults on the Autism Spectrum become more independent and socially connected members of their local communities. CAAPP also supports school-aged individuals who are in the process of making the transition to adulthood. CAAPP provides direct instruction, behavioral support and support in finding and maintaining employment.
