About us

The Milwaukee Teaching Fellows is an alternative teaching program charged with recruiting, selecting and training 40-50 high-achieving professionals and recent college graduates from all backgrounds to teach in critical need areas in high-need Milwaukee Public Schools. Teachers in the Milwaukee Teaching Fellows program (typically known as "Teaching Fellows") go through a rigorous selection process and summer training institute, before beginning teaching. Most Fellows do not have formal teaching experience, but all have a demonstrated record of past success, subject-matter knowledge, and a commitment to working in our schools. This cohort of new teachers will be prepared to teach in the schools where they are needed the most by participating in a six week long training institute held in June and July 2011. Since its inception, the Milwaukee Teaching Fellows program has placed more than 100 Fellows in hard-to-staff teaching positions throughout the city.
