The shared mission of Tufts Health Care Institute (THCI) and the Office of Continuing Education (OCE) at Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) is to promote life long learning for physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals, with the ultimate goal of improving patient care and health outcomes. THCI/OCE also manages the the International Society for Disease Surveillance (ISDS), that was established to improve population health by advancing the field of disease surveillance.
THCI/OCE educates health care practitioners and inter-professional teams through a combination of conferences, seminars, summit meetings, webinars and online learning modules, and other educational services. These programs and initiatives focus on clinical best practices, and the provision of high-quality, cost-effective care within the broader health care system.
THCI, a not-for-profit educational organization, was established in 1995 as a collaborative venture of the Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) and Tufts Health Plan (THP), a leading health maintenance organization in Massachusetts. Since 2005, THCI has managed the OCE's continuing education and accreditation function for the medical school.
TUSM's Office of Continuing Education has served physicians and other health care professionals in the Tufts affiliated hospitals for over 30 years. Currently, OCE accredits over 200 regularly scheduled conferences (e.g., grand rounds series) at many of the Tufts-affiliated hospitals; accredits 20 to 30 special programs and conferences a year; and manages a number of its own educational programs—in the classroom and online for regional, national and international audiences. The OCE is fully accredited by the national physician, nursing and pharmacist accrediting bodies.
