About us

Project STEP is an independent, non-profit organization that is sponsored by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston University School of Music, and the New England Conservatory. Founded in 1982, Project STEP’s purpose is to address the historic under-representation of musicians of color in the classical music profession by providing world-class musical training to gifted young musicians of color. STEP provides rigorous, selective, comprehensive string training to students from age six to eighteen.
