The role of the Planning Department is best described in its mission statement: “to help preserve, protect and manage the County’s resources by providing the highest quality planning services and growth management guidance and by facilitating effective intergovernmental and citizen involvement through education and technical assistance.” Prince George’s County boasts a diverse population of nearly 850,000 residents increasingly interested in the land development process, the services we provide, and opportunities for public involvement. The Department values community engagement and is committed to enhancing knowledge and participation of the public in every element of its work.

The Planning Department acts as a catalyst for positive change in Prince George’s County through the resources and activities of five divisions — Community Planning North andSouth,Countywide Planning, Development Review , Information Managementand Planning Director's Office—which operate under the leadership of the Planning Director.
