Citizens Union of the City of New York is an independent, nonpartisan good government group dedicated to making democracy work for all New Yorkers. Established in 1897 to fight for political reform and to combat widespread governmental misconduct in New York City, Citizens Union (CU) has spearheaded city and state level reform ever since, including improved voting procedures, government accountability and transparency, new reform initiatives on ethics, campaign finance, and state redistricting, as well as key changes to city government through legislation and charter revision. Believing an informed citizenry is the cornerstone of good government, Citizens Union Foundation (CUF) publishes GothamGazette.com, an award-winning news and policy website.
