The mission of Housing California is to prevent homelessness and to increase the supply of decent, safe, permanently affordable and accessible homes available to homeless and low income families and individuals in California.
Housing California is working in the Capitol to reduce the red tape and permanently source the funding to increase the overall supply of homes affordable to low-income Californians. We have proven solutions and we've had success with housing bonds. Now we are proposing a steady source of funding that will pay as we go. We also work on homeless policy and our focus is to get government to work together more efficiently to use the federal, state and local resources available to serve more people, more effectively. Housing California is also working on land use to make it easier to build homes of all types and levels of affordability in our communities. If we have more homes affordable to regular people near where they work, then we can reduce traffic congestion, improve our air quality and make peoples' lives better.
Housing California, founded in 1979, is the only voice for homelessness and affordable homes in California's capitol. We have secured two voter-approved bond measures, Propositions 46 and 1C for over five billion in funding for affordable homes. Our past legislative success has made us the go-to organization for decision makers when they want to solve the affordable home and homelessness crisis in California.
Housing California advances opportunities for low-income Californians to rent or own and affordable place to live. Our vision is a California with an adequate supply of housing and a wide range of housing types to match the income levels of all Californians. We accomplish this by building support for funding and for land use policy that directly leads to more homes built in communities throughout the state. An adequate supply of affordable homes will make homelessness more rare, short-term, and non-recurring.
