About us

The overall purpose of the Roosevelt Island Beacon Program @ PS/IS 217 is to offer programs that enrich and improve the quality of life for youth by providing recreational, educational, cultural and social programs and services that stress motivation and achievement.
We provide services for youth and adults of Roosevelt Island and the surrounding communities: the East Side in Manhattan and Long Island City in Queens. These services consist of an after-school program (October – June), evening and weekend programs (September – June) and a summer camp (July – August). Our activities combine recreation: Basketball Leagues/Clinics, Soccer Clinics, Wrestling and Learn to swim. Education: Journal Writing, Reading & Math Comprehension, Career Awareness for our middle school youth, and Cultural & arts enrichment programs: Chess, Dance and Martial Arts while providing a safe environment to participate in these programs.
