Doernbecher Children's Safety Center

About Us

Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 1-19. Among the 50 states, Oregon ranks in the next-to-worst quartile for years of potential life lost due to unintentional injury. Physicians caring for children play an important role in educating families about age-appropriate risk of injury and measures to minimize that risk. However, due to the limitations of time and resources in clinical settings, safety and injury prevention counseling efforts are often limited. With a goal of reducing unintentional injuries and death among children, the Doernbecher Children’s Safety Center was established in 2005. Based in the outpatient clinical setting at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the center is a critical link in promoting pediatric safety and preventive health. The Safety Center works in collaboration with primary and specialty care providers to ensure that children and families have access to the information and supplies needed to promote safety and health.

Doernbecher Children's Hospital, the first full-service children's hospital in the Pacific Northwest, offers a comprehensive program of primary and specialized pediatrics.
