About Us

City Life/Vida Urbana is a bilingual grassroots community organization, established in 1973 in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston to organize and empower neighborhood residents. We are committed to fighting for racial, social, and economic justice by building the power of low-income and working-class people through four interrelated program areas: individual assistance and advocacy, education, coalition building, and direct action. The common organizing strategy that runs through all city Life programs is to develop the capacity of residents, particularly Latinos, women, and working-class people, to organize themselves and to take leadership in their own neighborhood.

City Life's primary goal is to preserve and increase the availability of safe, affordable, and community-controlled housing. A related goal is to foster community activism and leadership development.
