Long Island Civic Engagement Table

About Us

The Long Island Civic Engagement Table (LICET) is a new initiative to transform the culture of civic participation and government accountability in Long Island. LICET does this by nurturing grassroots participation and leadership in working-class communities, particularly in communities of color. LICET seeks to work with these communities to turn the tide of anti-working class and anti-immigrant politics and build a common platform for working people.

LICET is led by community organizations working on advancing social and economic justice and supporting the integration of immigrant communities. LICET is led by Make the Road New York, New York Communities for Change, the Long Island Immigrant Alliance, and the Central American Refugee Center.

LICET sparks civic engagement by:

1. Increasing electoral participation of disenfranchised communities;

2. Nurturing grassroots leadership in communities of color;

3. Engaging Long Island residents in community organizing campaigns to advance issues related to social and economic justice; and

4. Coordinating and promoting naturalization for eligible legal permanent residents.
